Peter Mckinnon photographs can be found on Instagram. I chose him as architecture photographer because I like the colours he uses. Also the way he shows buildings with the wide-angle looks really beutiful.

Thomas W. Schaller paintings are made with watercolour and the techniques he uses are minimal but beautiful. I chose him as architecture artist because I like the scenes he chooses.

MVRDV architectures can be found on all around the world. They are a team of 3 architects and for example, designed the Markthal in Rotterdam. I really like their style they use a lot of glass in their buildings and a combination

SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE / URBAN RURAL PROJECT V.2
by ERAY CARBAJO
Eray/Carbajo introduced “Urban-Rural V.2”, a design that brings the benefits of rural living into urban setting of Saraphane region in Izmir, Turkey.
The site introduces an unconventional hybrid space with the integration of fish farms, green roofs and wellness centers to residential and office use. This dwelling model aims to nurture its residents and heal them by alleviating the stress of city living.
ANALYZATION
SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE / URBAN RURAL PROJECT
by ERAY CARBAJO
'Eray Carbajo announces Urban-Rural, a new dwelling typology for a sustainable transformation strategy that will become the exemplar for Istanbul's future redevelopment, with construction completion in 2019. Urban-Rural proposes a hybrid unit of habitation where one can be close to the city centre and simultaneously enjoy the lifestyle of rural living while having a strong interaction with the community and neighbourhood.'

Sensory elements
The lines on this building are the shapes. They are hexagons and are based on a rural instanbullu home as seen on the picture on the right. They chose the colour scheme of white, light brown (wood colour) and green from the plants. These colours create the illusion that you are in nature while still being in an urban area. The white outside of the hexagon makes it seem like a really clean material and the emotion of white is a completion. Qua light and dark colours they only used light colours. The use of light and darkness with the sun is very clever because of the hexagon sticking out at one part creates a shadow on the balcony together with the trees. The range that this building takes up is not that much since it is supposed to be built in the city where there is limited space.
Formal elements
The shape of a hexagon is reoccurring and forming a pattern, this gives the building a look like a bee-hive. You can also call this rhythm. The outwards standing of the shape and the symmetry of each individual apartments makes the building look lively. This liveliness creates balance, this is also done by the building not forming a straight line but a tilde (~). There is not much contrast due to all the apartments outside being the same, I think that this was meant to be that each individual living in this building had the feeling that he/she was in his/her own space/cubicle. This also means that everything is in the same proportions, there is no variation (maybe only in the plants) and everything is coherent.
Technical elements
There is not much known about which materials he used. Though they used a lot of plants on the balcony's and on the roof together with solar panels.
Also not much is known about Eray Carbajo. Only that they are a team of three architects.
Expressive elements
This building creates the illusion that you are living in a rural area while still being in the middle of the city. This will make it easier for people from the country to switch to an urban lifestyle. I do not think that there is a specific emotion or mood expressed but I do think it creates an opportunity for people to get to know their neighbours better and create a sense of community.
Sustainability
The picture next to this shows the sustainability of the building. Gray water use means that you reuse water from the washing machine to flush the toilet for example. This is used for more than half of the water. Also, there is a lot of rainwater that is collected and used. Furthermore, they also use automated taps which reduces a lot of the water usage. All this water is also stored in this building. 15% percent of the energy that will be used in the building will be sustainable and

They have a very organic style, the house they are going to build is very sustainable everything that they take away from nature they use in their home. no use of cement and concrete. The bags used for reusing the soil is really solid and smart. Further, they used a roof of grass which is very sustainable but they also reused soil they used hay for the walls as insulation together with lime clay and not cement. The structures skeleton made of only timber wood this is very hard to do since the logs are not very thick, round and it is a two-story home.
The products that did have an impact were only used because they would've otherwise gone to landfill and having used this could be viewed as both bad and good. My opinion is that they did good, they isolated their home and prevented useful products from going to landfill.

Grand designs
design
Their first money budget was 500 but because they do have jobs selling self-grown vegetables, giving courses and consulting with self-sustaining houses they grew their budget.
They have a low budget these are some things that make them have this and be able to support themselves: volunteers, the people that come to help want to learn how to build a self-sustainable home. Only one problem, these volunteers don't build voluntary in the winter. Because of this, the process was far from fast they were only halfway done after 6 years.
The house on the outside is very beautiful but probably because it already is a few years ago the interior design is not really my taste. However, I do have respect for them that they can sustain themselves for 75% or more.

My photography
Final Project
My project is not like the others. SInce I love doing photograhy I decided that I wanted to do the art version of this project.
My Ideas
This couldn's just be regular photos. I had to think of a theme. I came up with three different times to photograph (sunset&midday for example), different materials for buildings & reflections in buildings and other objects. The one I eventually chose was reflection. I could use multiple objects to create a unique picture and I had more inspiration for this idea.
Process
First I researched some buildings in Rotterdam which had a lot of glass or reflective parts.
Then I thought about what objects I could use myself to reflect. The objects I thought of and that also already had were: a little mirror, my phone and my camera lens.
After my research, I took 4 AAD hours to photograph in the city. I went to Kop van Zuid, Schouwburgplein, Weena and Central station.
At Kop van Zuid I used windows of other buildings for reflections. At Schouwburg and central I used my phone, camera lens and the little mirror. The last place I visited was Weena and I used all techniques.
My last step after the taking of the pictures was editing them. I just adjusted the white balance and the exposure of the photo and thatwas all.

My opinion
The project almost turned out how I wanted it to be. colourful and a little bit abstract. What I could've improved was the use of objects I maybe could've used more. (like the ones stated in my mindmap)
